Rubén Muedra Estudio de Arquitectura receives the Excellence Award for Sustainable Architectural Design at the BUILD Sustainable Building Awards 2019 for the Passivhaus headquarters of Idai Nature.
The Sustainable Building Awards, organised by the British publication BUILD, recognise each year the professionals and projects driving a more environmentally responsible architecture. In its 2019 edition, the studio is distinguished in Valencia with the Excellence Award for Sustainable Architectural Design.
The recognition relates to the Idai Nature headquarters, one of the first corporate offices in the country designed to the Passivhaus standard. The building combines high thermal insulation, rigorous infiltration control and maximum indoor air quality, reducing energy consumption by around 70% compared with a conventional building. A backlit polycarbonate façade and the vegetation running through the interior —from the vertical garden at the entrance to the terrace— sum up the identity of the project.
The distinction confirms the commitment of the studio to sustainability understood as environmental and economic responsibility, and to an architecture that improves the wellbeing of those who inhabit it.
