Architects in Santa Bárbara
We design single-family houses in the Santa Bárbara urbanisation, in Rocafort, one of the historic garden cities of l’Horta Nord and one of the most demanding residential settings in the Valencia area. We support every project from the first meeting to the handover.
Santa Bárbara: a garden city of the Valencian bourgeoisie
The Santa Bárbara urbanisation was born in the 1960s as a garden city for the Valencian economic elite, on the market gardens of Rocafort. At its origin are the SCP Parque Santa Bárbara company and the so-called Baron of Santa Bárbara. Large detached villas, mature gardens and quiet streets define a setting where quality and discretion matter more than display.
Its landmark is the Santa Bárbara parish church, built between 1964 and 1966 by the architect Luís Jiménez de la Iglesia: exposed limestone walls, a tiled roof and a Norman air that is today listed as a Site of Local Relevance. Designing here means engaging with an already established residential fabric and with heritage recognised by every neighbour.
The ground is almost flat, of market-garden origin. That shifts the focus to the relationship between house and garden: levels, access, sunlight and the transition between inside and outside are resolved with precision. The mature trees, common on these plots, are used as a natural filter for shade and privacy.
Rocafort is also the municipality with the highest average income in the province of Valencia. We design from a careful reading of the plot and of each client’s way of living, and we order the project through municipal planning —setbacks, heights, occupation— and the heritage catalogue, so it reaches permit and site without surprises.
What we resolve in Santa Bárbara
We design the house from the plot: brief, orientation, light, circulation and materiality. A single idea holds each project, from concept and permit to the construction documents.
A careful study of the existing condition, a structural review and a proposal coherent with what is worth keeping. A full refurbishment demands the same rigour as new construction.
The interior is designed together with the architecture: joinery, bespoke furniture, lighting and materials are part of the same set of decisions.
We support the works to the built result: project and execution management, safety coordination and close collaboration with the builder. What is drawn well is built well.
We work with passive criteria and Passivhaus certification, renewable energy and rational decisions for a healthy and economically coherent architecture, with BIM methodology and permit and budget tracking.
How we work on every project
A structure of precision
Rubén Muedra Arquitectura is a studio founded in 2010, based in Valencia with a presence in Madrid, Ibiza and the Costa Blanca. Design, development, technical, visualisation, construction, structures and technology share a single working logic: turning talent into a common culture of precision.
Recent projects
Before we start
Between 18 and 30 months from commission to handover, depending on size and complexity: 8-12 months of design and permits, and 14-20 of construction.
Yes. We work regularly in Rocafort and know its planning and the catalogue protecting part of the setting (including La Colonia and Santa Bárbara): setbacks, heights, occupation and plot conditions.
Yes, with judgement. The Santa Bárbara church is a Site of Local Relevance; the project cares for scale, setbacks and the relationship with its surroundings, and is coordinated with the council to avoid permit issues.
Yes. Project management, execution management and safety coordination. The quality of a project is decided as much on site as on the drawings.
Yes, with certified experience in passive criteria and Passivhaus, renewable energy and rational solutions for a healthy, efficient home.
Both. The full refurbishment of a 1960s-70s villa in Santa Bárbara demands the same rigour as new construction: study of the existing condition, structural review and a proposal coherent with what is worth keeping.

A first meeting, with no commitment, to understand your plot and your priorities. From there, we decide together how to approach the project.
