Vita Viridis Building

Living between the green and the horizon.

Vita Viridis Building is projected in the Sector La Hoya in Torrevieja (Alicante), a residential piece that forms part of a wider master plan over the southern front of the municipality. The proposal begins from a direct question: how to introduce residential density into a semi-arid landscape without giving up the green as the protagonist of shared life.

The layout distributes the buildable programme in contained volumes that breathe between each other. Blocks are pulled apart to open cross views and build a network of green spaces that runs through the ensemble. Dwellings are organised with through-going plans, deep terraces and galleries that tension the boundary between interior and shared open space.

Materiality builds the atmosphere. Light tones in the envelope, deep window frames that protect from the Levantine sun, climbing vegetation on the façades and vegetal pergolas on the rooftops. Green is not a finish: it is a building system that regulates temperature, shade and the experience of those who inhabit the building.

Landscape does not appear as a distant view, but as an active piece of the composition. Terraces, courtyards and vegetated rooftops bring nature close to every dwelling, and Mediterranean light crosses the ensemble without obstacles, drawing volumes and vegetation at the same time.

Vita Viridis Building is not understood as an operation closed upon itself. Its value lies in proposing a residential way of life that places the green at the centre, organising density from the logic of the landscape and building an edifice where housing, shared space and climate are thought together.
